Today was the big day to start reuniting with family; we were heading to North Carolina to pick up my Mom before heading to Virginia for our “Back Together Again - Family Reunion”. I was so excited to be going to pick up my Mom because that was one of the desires of my heart.
Side Note: I am reminded of one of God’s promises to us: Delight thyself also in the Lord;
And he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Psalms 37:4
One of my desires for probably the last 20 years since my Pops passed, is to take my Mom on a camping trip, like they use to take us when I was growing up. To be going to pick up my Mom in our motorhome, and taking her with us to the family reunion was a dream come true for me. We didn’t get up too early that morning because Mom does volunteer work at her church, and she wouldn’t be getting off until 2 o’clock that afternoon, so we decided to hang around at “Pedro’s” until about 10 a.m. We took the opportunity to go out and walk the campground, and pray for all of the residents there. We met a couple of people that were out, and shared our ministry with them. We find that a lot of people are surprised to hear about what we do; as one gentleman said, “we sure need more of that in this world”. Our prayer walks are a great time to meet people, and find out what their spiritual needs are. Even though we were not “thrilled” with the campground, we know that everywhere we go, God wants us to impact the Kingdom of God for His glory. We got back to our campsite, we built an altar, and prepared for our “later than usual” departure. We were only putting in about 150 miles that day, so our plan was to arrive at my Mom’s church just before she got off of work.
As we customarily do, we prayed over our travel day, and got back on I-95 North; we almost immediately crossed the state line, entering into North Carolina.

It was pretty exciting for me, knowing that our travel day was relatively short that day. We had a great day for travel as we made our way to my Mom’s church. We actually arrived a little earlier than expected; we gave Mom a call and told her that we were pulling into the parking lot. It is a blessing that “Pastor Grant” allows us to park in the church parking lot when we are in town to visit Mom. Not long after we got situated and leveled in the parking lot, I heard a car horn blowing outside the rig; it was Mom pulling up; ready to pick us up and head to her house. She came in for a little while; we greeted each other, and I shared with her how much of a blessing it was for me to be picking her up for our “road trip”. We grabbed our things for the overnight stay, and jumped in the car. Of course, whenever I am in town, Mom wants to be chauffeured around, so I jumped in the driver seat, and she sat in the backseat, while Adriene rode a my co-pilot. We headed over to the house. We got into “relax mode” really quickly.
One of my regular stops when I am in North Carolina, is Gardner’s. That is where I go to get my “fix” of Carolina Barbecue, so Adriene and I made a trip our there to grab a combo plate for dinner (barbecue, cole slaw, collard greens, yams, and hush puppies). Adriene is not a fan of Carolina Barbecue (pulled pork, with plenty of vinegar), so she got a chicken dinner instead. It certainly is not the healthiest food, but it is a “mandatory” stop for me when I am in town.
While we were out and about, we got word that Adriene’s Grandma had been in the hospital in Alaska, but had been released, and also her niece, Hanniah, was back in the hospital in Virginia. We have been praying for “complete healing” for her for some time and our prayers continued that evening as well. Hannah is 10 years old, and has been challenged by cancer, so we keep the "prayer wheels” turning for her healing.
We headed back to my Mom’s house after doing our running around. We relaxed for the evening while watching some TV, and preparing for our trip to “Indian Acres” in the morning. I was pretty excited, because my dream of traveling with Mom in “our motorhome” was coming to fruition.
